According to Rowse(2005) there are 20 types of blogs posts, such as, instructional, informational, reviews and etc, and according to Belardo (2010) there are 5 types of blogs out there which are;
- Collaborative Blog
- How To / Tutorial Blog
- Travel and Cultural Blog
- Fashion and lifestyle Blog
- Personal Blog
However according to Simons (2008), there are 9 types of blogs
- Pamphleteering blogs
- Digest blogs
- Advocacy blogs
- Popular mechanics blogs
- Exhibition blogs
- Gate watchers blogs
- Diary
- Advertisement
- News blogs
As we can see from above, that Belardo’s classification on types of blogs are based upon themes whereas Simons’s is more precise, looking into the nature of the blog itself.
Nowadays, blogs are no longer belonging strictly words only basis, there are many ways to express one’s self thru different channels. For example video blogs from youtube.com, which houses stars such as Justin Beiber, who’s humble beginning is from this platform.
Furthermore sketch blogs as can be seen from devianart.com and photo blogs from websites such as photobucket.com and flickr.com.
In my humble opinion, I feel that I would classify a blog by Belardo’s way as it is simple to categorize and not as confusing as Simons’ 9 types of blog classification.
